Edwin E. Jones, age 93, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday afternoon, January 12, 2026, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.
Ed was born December 21, 1932, in Flora, the son of Ernest E. and Mildred O. (Littrell) Jones. Ed was united in marriage to Donna M. Schooley on September 28, 1957, in Kinmundy, and together they shared a devoted marriage of 68 years.
He served in the Army National Guard and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict era. He dedicated 41 years of service to B&O Railroad, later CSX, retiring as a signal foreman. He was a longtime member of Flora First Methodist Church and held membership in the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen, Flora Masonic Lodge, and Flora American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Flora Elks. Ed and Donna especially enjoyed spending their winters in Florida.
Ed is survived by his wife, Donna Jones of Flora; two sons, Greg Jones and his wife, Brenda, of Salem, and Brad Jones and his wife, Jerilynn, of Piedmont, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Aaron Jones and his fiancée, Ashley Mezack, and Kaleigh Byrd and her husband, Daniel; and a great-granddaughter, Violet Byrd.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Jones; and a sister, Donna Jeanne Kelly.
A funeral ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, accompanied with recognition of Ed’s military service. Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. I always enjoyed being friends with Ed during my time in Flora. It was great working with him at the Food Pantry. Love and prayers to you, Donna.

Prayers for Donna and the entire family. I was so blessed to grow up next to such a wonderful neighbor. From fixing my bike to letting me sit in the dentist chair in his family room, such fond memories.

So very sorry for your loss. I have many good memories of "Hot Rod" from working around him on the railroad for many years. I thought a lot of him. He will be missed.

So sorry about your dad Greg, actually I just seen that his parents were my neighbors on clan st. when I was just a kid, saw them often, I even visited them as a kid , but so sorry I just found out on the day of his funeral that he had passed,
