Graveside Memorial Gathering: 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Clay City Cemetery

Steven “Cecil” Phillips, age 63, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Deaconess Illinois Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was born November 20, 1961, in Fairfield, the son of Noble E. and Betty A. (Phillips) Walker.
Cecil was a mechanic by both trade and calling, over the years working with Knapp Oil, McDaniel Trucking, Cottonwood Creek Trucking, Tri-County Ag, and Nutrien Ag Solutions. He always took great pride in a job done right. Cecil loved sharing stories from the shop with family and friends and cherished the bonds he formed with co-workers, whom he considered an extension of his family.
Cecil is survived by his daughter: Stevi Brinkley of Flora; brother: Noble H. Walker of Clay City; sisters: Kay Taylor of Paris and Ruth Lashbrook of Patoka, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He is preceded in passing by his parents and several step-siblings
A graveside memorial gathering will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Clay City Cemetery, where interment will follow. The ceremony is organized and hosted by the family. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora assisted with final arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Cancer Crusaders, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Steve at Knapps Station and McDaniel Trucking. He was a true friend and a good kind hearted guy. He will be missed very much. Rest in peace my friend. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
