Deborah “Debbie” Ann Dugan, age 68, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Friday afternoon, August 8, 2025, at Helia Healthcare of Salem.
She was born April 22, 1957, in Effingham, the daughter of Shelby and Sylvia (Butler) Britton.
Debbie operated a beauty salon out of her home in Clay City for over 20 years and worked as a secretary at Shelby’s Well Service for many years in addition to selling Avon and Rainbow vacuums. She loved working in her big one-acre garden and canning the vegetables she grew. She took great pride in the purple passion flowers blooming alongside her home and in her koi pond, where she often sat watching the fish. Debbie never met a cat she could turn away. She attended Clay City First Baptist and Clay City Christian Churches. More than anything, she cherished being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma, and she was proud of every single one of her family members.
She is survived by her sons: Greg (Kay) Oestreich of Clay City and Zeb Oestreich (Laura Bricker) of Clay City. 6 grandchildren: Ashton Harrison, Elisabeth Oestreich, Isabella Oestreich, Rashelle (Tyler) Brooker, Logan (Danica) Murray, and Sierra (Josh) Eastin; 14 great-grandchildren; father: Shelby (Carol) Britton of Louisville; brother: James “Bud” Allen Britton of Louisville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
She is preceded in death by her mother: Sylvia Britton; and her former husband: Mark Oestreich.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Brooks Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
