Committal: Elmwood Cemetery
Alechia Kay Roosevelt, age 46, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday night, February 9, 2026, at her home. She was surrounded by the love and presence of those closest to her, after a journey in which she faced cancer with remarkable faith, strength, and grace.
She was born August 3, 1979, in Olney, the daughter of Kevin Eugene and Carla Jo (Kirkman) Curtis. On June 14, 2014, she was united in marriage to Christopher Shane Roosevelt in Flora, and together they shared 11 years of marriage built on love and commitment.
A graduate of Flora High School, Alechia earned her nursing degree from Frontier Community College and dedicated her life to caring for others. She served as the school nurse at Clay City School, where she was more than a nurse—she was a comfort, a safe place, and a familiar smile to many students. During her illness, she often spoke of how much she missed her “kiddos” and looked forward to the day she hoped to return to them.
Family was at the heart of everything Alechia did. She loved traveling and being together, carefully planning trips and moments that brought those she loved close. The beach had always been one of her favorite places—a place that brought her joy and renewal—and in December she felt drawn to be there again with those she loved most. True to who she was, she planned a spur-of-the-moment trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama, in just two days. She found that same sense of calm in familiar places closer to home, including Montauk State Park and Bell Smith Springs within the Shawnee National Forest.
Throughout her battle with cancer, Alechia’s faith remained a steady source of strength and assurance. On December 17, 2025, she was baptized alongside her family at Christ’s Church in Flora—an experience she joyfully described as the “best day of my life.” She shared that the peace she felt was immediate, and that moment became a source of comfort and reassurance for her and those closest to her. Even in uncertainty, she trusted that God was holding her and guiding her every step of the way.
Alechia deeply appreciated the outpouring of love and support from her community and never took for granted the prayers, encouragement, and kindness shown to her and those she loved. She faced her illness with courage, gratitude, and an unshakable love for those she held closest, praying always for healing. Her family now finds comfort in knowing Alechia’s steadfast faith has carried her home.
She is survived by her husband, Shane Roosevelt of Flora; three children: Madison McKnelly (Reid Travis) of Danville, Weston McKnelly of Flora, and Avery Roosevelt of Flora; her mother, Carla Clevenger of Flora; her father, Kevin “Bo” Curtis of Xenia; siblings: Kevin (Jessica) Curtis of Louisville, Amanda (Preston) Petersen of Flora, and Kyle (Stephany) Butcher of Flora; maternal grandmother, Janice Colclasure of Flora; paternal grandmother, Audra Curtis of Effingham; former husband and father of Madison and Weston, Curt McKnelly of Louisville; nieces: Kaitlyn Littlejohn, Abigail Curtis, Lia Petersen, Kaylin Petersen, Ayda Petersen, Skylar Butcher, Shelby Butcher, and Amara McCormick; nephews: Trevor Littlejohn, Elijah Curtis, and Wyatt Butcher; great-niece, Brynleigh Ferrell; father- and mother-in-law, Randy and Donna Roosevelt of Clay City; her beloved and faithful canine companion, Lilly, who rarely left her side; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Cloise Curtis; maternal grandfather, Carl Kirkman; maternal great-grandmother, Marjorie Kirkman; an uncle, Roger Kirkman; and stepfather, Danny Clevenger.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Mark Luzadder officiating. A committal ceremony will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations are suggested to a fund established for the benefit of Alechia’s children’s future college expenses. Contributions will be accepted through the funeral home, and checks should be made payable to Shane Roosevelt. To share a condolence or memory, please visit: www.frankandbright.com

I'm so sorry for your loss Shane and your family's. You guys are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Alechia Kay was my very first friend when I moved to Flora. We lived right down the road from each other, and I spent many weekends and summers at her house. She became more like a sister to me than a friend. She had a way of making people feel more like family than anything else, probably because she had such a huge heart for everyone. Unfortunately, life happened and our paths went in different directions, like it so often does for people. I will always cherish all of the memories that I was fortunate enough to have, and I pray that her family finds peace and healing. My heart goes out to her children and her husband, as well as the rest of her loved ones. The world lost a loving soul, but heaven gained an angel.
Welcome home my good and faithful servant! Prayers for the family in this difficult time. Alecia was a wonderful nurse and I am blessed to know her and work with her for a short time.
I am so very sorry Shane for you and your families loss. Many prayers for comfort.
May God wrap his arms around you all during this time.
Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.
My deepest sympathy She was the sweetest young lady.
So sorry for your loss. She was the sweetest person to everyone she met.
Sorry for your loss, Bo. Take care... Joey
Prayers with all
I am so deeply sorry for the loss of my niece Alecia Kay at such a young age. Forty-six is far too soon, and there are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing someone so precious. Alecia brought light, love, and her own special presence into the lives of everyone who knew her. The memories she created, the laughter she shared, and the love she gave will never be forgotten. Though her time here feels heartbreakingly short, her impact was lasting and meaningful. May you find comfort in the beautiful moments you shared, strength in the love of friends, and peace in knowing that her life mattered deeply. My heart and prayers are with you, Shane, and your family during this incredibly difficult time.
