A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM at the Brush Creek Campground Tabernacle in Xenia, Illinois, with a reception to follow.
Alan Ray Meers, age 71, of Iuka, Illinois, peacefully passed away at Axiom Healthcare in Flora, IL. (5:30 AM, June 27, 2026).
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM at the Brush Creek Campground Tabernacle in Xenia, Illinois, with a reception to follow. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora assisted the family.
Alan’s cenotaph will rest in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Dundas, Illinois. To honor Alan's memory, memorial gifts may be made to Brush Creek Campground, or the Michael Meers Nursing Scholarship Fund, c/o Children's Mercy Hospital, 2401 Gillham Road, Kansas City, MO 64108. These contributions will ensure that Alan's legacy continues to positively impact the lives of others, as he did throughout his remarkable journey.
Alan was born on March 11, 1955, in Olney, Illinois, the son of Robert and Helen (Millsap) Meers. Alan was a devoted father who touched the lives of many. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
Alan dedicated 37 years of his life teaching for the Kaskaskia Special Education District and Iuka Grade School, where he served special needs children in grades K-8. During his career Alan served on various school committees as requested by his administration. Additionally, he worked for Martin and Bailey (Huck's-Flora, IL, 24 yrs).
A faithful member of the Community of Christ, he became a member in January of 1978, with 20+ years as Presiding Elder of the Centralia congregation. Alan's faith played a central role in his life. He found solace and strength in his relationship with God and found joy in participating in the church community. In his leisure time, Alan delighted in reading, oil painting, gardening and playing the dulcimer. Above all, Alan cherished the company of family and friends treasuring every moment spent together with them.
Alan traveled to China three times to adopt his three children: Christy, Tian and Gavin. Alan will be forever missed by his children: Christy Meers (Jeff) of Xenia, Ohio; Gavin Meers of Springfield, Missouri; Tian Meers Allen (Lucas Allen) of Xenia, Illinois, feline companion, Arya Meers, brothers David (Betty) Meers of Olney, Illinois; and Sam (Julie) Meers of Kansas City, Missouri. His memory will also be carried on by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In the hearts of those who loved him, Alan's spirit will forever shine brightly, casting a warm and comforting glow upon their lives. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and wonderful memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

Alan was always so sweet. A true pleasure to work with. A great friend.
I was Alans coworker at Hucks but we soon became fast friends. He was always a good listener as well as a joker. His sense of humor was and his general caring for people is what I loved most about him. His eyes Always lit up talking about his children. They really were his life. I will really miss him 😢
