There was never a kinder, gentler, more gifted man to walk this earth. Heaven is better for his return home

Terry Perrine

August 14th

In Remembrance of My Uncle Larry Neal Perrine I first met (Uncle) Larry Neal Perrine around Christmas time in December of 1957, though I really don’t recall those early days. Prior to that time, my family, mom, dad, myself, age 7, sister Penny, age 5, Mark, age 4, and Dawn, age 3 and I had lived in Warrenton, Oregon. When our parents divorced, our dad moved us too Flora, Il. At that time, Uncle Larry lived in town, taking care of great grandma Gilman and great great uncle Bill Perrine. Obviously, Uncle Larry was very caring, even as a young man. There are a number of fond instances that I recall with uncle Larry: We spent many nights taking out Fox hounds out, spending hours listening to the hounds chasing foxes all around the countryside. Listening to the dogs baying as they ran, debating with friends, Squib Tullet and Art Shores, which dog was leading the pack. We never got back home until near dawn. An example of Uncle Larry’s selflessness, when Squib passed, Uncle Larry took over the care of Squib’s two fox hounds for the remainder of their lives. It was also Uncle Larry who took me out into the woods, teaching me how to shoot as well as sneak silently through the woods during squirrel season, hunting for squirrels. Larry loved the outdoors, and we spent many days and nights fishing at Johnsonville lake, making fishing jugs and trot lines, putting them out and running them. Another of my favorite memories was riding around with Uncle Larry, listening to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. Larry enjoyed working on cars, and built a shop near the family house just off State Street. It was there, working with Uncle Larry’s guidance that I received much of my knowledge of auto mechanics I enlisted in the US Air Force in 1969 and was on active duty until 1989. Regardless of my duties and assignments, Uncle Larry and the times we shared together has always been in my heart. To say the least, Uncle Larry was a good man, and I shall miss him.
