Shelby Jean Cook, age 83, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday afternoon, October 22, 2021, at her home.
She was born June 30, 1938, in Harrington, Delaware, the daughter of John Thomas and Mary (Laramore) Yowell. She was united in marriage to Richard Leroy Cook on February 14, 1969, in Reading, Pennsylvania, and together they have shared 52 wedding anniversaries.
Shelby truly enjoyed helping others, and appreciated the opportunity to show concern and be a caregiver for those in need, including during her work as a CNA. She was a member of Bloom Baptist Church where she helped with bible school. She and Richard were members of the Harter Township Fishing Club and she liked time spent out at the lake.
She is survived by her husband: Richard Cook of Flora; children: Joe (Karen) Anderson of Flora and Richard (Lesa) Cook Jr. of Flora; daughter-in-law: Linda Anderson of Pennsylvania; son-in-law: Ron Sexton of Flora; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Rose Yarbro of Clayton, Delaware.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Mike Anderson; daughter: Cathy Sexton; a grandson; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother: William (Margaret) Yowell; and her dog: Major.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Bloom Baptist Church and will be accepted through the funeral home. Just found out about Shelby’s passing! Cannot start to say how much she will be missed! We shared so many times together! Tears,laughter,and lots of other emotions!! Gone but never forgotten!!! God gained another Precious Angel!! She loved her family so much! A heart of Gold stopped beating!! Prayers for you Richard and family! God be with you all!!
