Interment: Elmwood Cemetery
Visitation: 12 noon until time of service on Friday at the funeral home
Leona Mae Hackney, age 78, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Wednesday morning, March 10, 2021, at her home.
She was born April 14, 1942, in Songer Township, Clay County, the daughter of David Roscoe and Wynonia Waif (Evans) Dow. She was united in marriage to Larry E. Hackney on June 25, 1961, at the Presbyterian Church and together they have shared 59 wedding anniversaries.
Leona had worked for several local attorneys as a legal secretary. She was a charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Flora where she had been WMU Director. Leona cherished time spent with family, enjoyed quilting and sewing, and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband: Larry Hackney of Flora; 2 sons: Dustin (Heidi) Hackney of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Joel (Sarah) Hackney of Flora; 4 grandchildren: Aaron, Rachel, Makenna, and Carson Hackney; and a sister: Margaret Eubanks of Flora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 sisters: Norma Jean Devore and Mary Ellen Littlejohn.
A funeral ceremony will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2021, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Pastor Don Lusk Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 noon until time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church Youth and will be accepted through the funeral home. Leona and Larry did a very good job raising a family and demonstrating stability. Sorry for your loss Larry and family.

Larry, I was so sorry to read this about Leona. I sit by her in shorthand class in high school and don’t know of anyone who could take shorthand as good and as fast as her! Always enjoyed sitting by her. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Larry, Dusty, Joel and families, my prayers are with you all at this this time. Prayers for comfort and peace for all. I remember Leona as one of the beautiful, God loving women of old Oak Street church that set such a good example for all young people. She will be missed but rejoice in the promise of the great reunion one day.

My most sincere condolences to Leona's family. Leona is now with her Lord and Savior and suffers no more. She was most helpful to me in caring for my mother's financial matters for many years after my dad died. Prior to that, she worked for my dad when he needed secretarial help. I don't have words to express how grateful I was for her help at a time when I needed it. Leona was a very kind, trustworthy, loving person that will be missed by many whose lives' she touched. My sister, JoAnn Rose, reported that Leona had passed. I have thought of her often and remember the friendship I had in high school with you both. Thinking of you, Larry, and my condolences to you.
