Michael "Mike" G. Hungate, age 63, of Flora, Illinois, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, September 24, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

      He was born July 26, 1963, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Donald Eugene and Doris Lee (Clark) Hungate.

      Mike was a 1981 graduate of Edwards County High School. In his early working years, he spent time in the oil fields, and he later worked at NAL, Wal-Mart, and the Flora VFW.

      Wherever Mike went, he had a way of making people feel welcome. He was quick with a story, always good for a laugh, and could make a stranger feel like an old pal in no time. He was a giving man who loved life, and he was a friend for life to anyone who knew him.

      When he wasn't working, Mike was happiest outdoors or out on the road on his Harley-Davidson. He was a member of the Flatlanders Social Club, and riding brought him a lot of good times with good friends. Mike was a loyal Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Cardinals fan, and when it came to racing, Jeff Gordon was his guy. He never turned down a plate of biscuits and gravy, and his dog, Leroy, was a faithful companion in recent years, just as LJ was before him.

      Most of all, Mike was a proud dad and Papaw. His sons and grandkids were his greatest joy, and nothing meant more to him than time spent with them. He leaves behind a lot of laughter, a lot of friends, and a family who loved him dearly.

      He is survived by his two sons, Mason Hungate of Flora and Dalton (Lexie) Hungate of Kinmundy; mother, Doris Crutchfield of Grayville; three grandchildren, Hadley, Eliza, and Blake Hungate; and two sisters, Donna Proctor of Albion and Tammy Downs of Grayville.

      He was preceded in passing by his father, Donald Hungate; stepfather, Tom Crutchfield; and sister, Joyce Hungate Woodward.

      Visitation hours for Mike will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A ceremony celebrating Mike's life will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, led by Chuck Buchanan. Memorial donations are suggested to assist the family with expenses, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.
