Barbara Burton Wood, age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family and beloved pets.

Born on September 1, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, Barbara was the daughter of Reubin and Josephine Gibson. In 1993, she married Donald Wood, who lovingly cared for her throughout their many years together.

Barbara cherished her family above all else. Her greatest joy came from being a mother, grandmother and wife—roles she embraced with unwavering love and devotion.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Dena Burton Webster (Al Gonzalez) of Florida and Christy Salmon of California; her son, Anthony (Tony) Joseph (Wendy) of Minnesota; and her grandchildren: Derek Snell, Kirstie Snell (Vince), and Frederick Webster of Florida and Matthew, Thomas, and Caitlin Salmon of California. She also leaves behind one great-grandchild, James Kennedy Foster of Florida; her sisters, Cynthia Huff and Nita Smith of Flora; and her brothers, Bradley “Bosco” Gibson of Flora and Paul Gibson of Cisne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rick Gibson, her son Spencer MacDonald and several beloved rescued dogs.

Barbara dedicated over 21 years of service to Clay County Hospital, where she was a valued and faithful employee. She played a key role in opening Dr. Bradley Reynolds’ practice and managed collections for Dr. Alphonso Urdaneta and Dr. Galen Lueking.

A passionate advocate for women’s safety and empowerment, Barbara was a charter member of the nonprofit organization Stopping Women Abuse Now (SWAN), where she helped make a lasting impact in her community.

Barbara’s legacy is one of compassion, strength, and fierce devotion to those she loved. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

“To the world you may be one person, but to your family you were the world.”

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.

A Remembrance Ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  A memorial visitation for family and friends to gather will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the funeral home.  Following the conclusion of the ceremony, everyone is invited to a celebration of Barbara’s life at the Flora Moose.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stopping Woman Abuse Now (SWAN) or Fur a Good Paws in Flora.  Donations by check or cash will be accepted through the funeral home.

I am saddened to hear of Barbara‘s passing. She and I have known each other for many years. We even worked together through different offices I worked in while she was doing collections for the hospital. Barbara always had a smile. She always looked and acted professional. It was a pleasure to converse with her and we shared many laughs together. My prayers are with her family during this difficult time. RIP Barbara❣️

I am so very sorry of the passing of this beautiful lady. She was a force to be reckoned with in her younger days and loved her family so very much. She helped with the administrations at the Clay County Hospital in the office at the old hospital. She could move mountains. I know she has grandkids that meant the world to her and her to them. She was a classy lady and will be remembered for so many things here in Flora. Kirstie, what a wonderful granddaughter you were to your Nana. Hugs to you all.
