Visitation:  11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home

Linda Kay Allen, age 79, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away early Saturday morning, May 2, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

She was born September 20, 1946, in Flora, the daughter of David Lindell and Pauline (Trimble) Allen.

Linda Kay spent more than 30 years working at the same factory, staying on through its many changes from Sunbeam Plastics to Rexam PLC and finally to Silgan Plastics.  Retirement didn’t suit her for long, and after about six months, she was ready to get back to work, joining Hella with CER Sorting.

Linda Kay liked to stay busy and especially enjoyed being outdoors, whether she was mowing, hauling wood, or tending to her vegetable garden. She was also well known for her cooking and often shared favorites like chicken and noodles, apple and cherry pies, and rock candy at family get-togethers.

She is survived by her children: Jeff Allen of Xenia, Scott (Carol) Allen of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Jan Artis (Derrick Colclasure) of Flora; 7 grandchildren: Shay Allen (Logan Hawkins) of Flora, Braxton Allen of Flora, Jaryn Allen of Flora, Hunter Allen of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Jada (Preston) Kendrick of Mt. Olive, Alabama, Tyler Artis (Breanna Briscoe) of Flora, and Laney Lehman of Flora; 3 great-grandchildren: Isabella Wolfe of Flora, Xander Wolfe of Flora, and Theo Artis of Flora, and a great-granddaughter on the way; 4 sisters: Norma Brooks of Xenia, Janet Sue Johnson of Flora, Judith Meadows of Xenia, and Brenda Williams of Xenia; a brother: Paul Ray (Bonnie) Allen, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in passing by her parents; brother: Richard Allen; granddaughter: Macy Artis; brother-in-law: Harold “Gene” Brooks; and her longtime companion: William “Bill” Spitzner.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Lance Thackery officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Mound Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations are suggested to Oak Mound Cemetery Fund and will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com

Sincere condolences to all of Linda’s family. In my teen years we spent many fun times together, especially the sleep overs. I’m sure I added many gray hairs to mom Pauline’s head! Because of distance we seldom saw one another but my family always kept me updated. Kay was a good friend. She was shy and gentle and such a hard worker. She will be missed by all who knew her!

Although I only met her once, I could feel the kindness, grace, and love she carried. Sometimes you can meet someone for only a moment and still see the light of Christ shining through them. Her life clearly left a beautiful impact on so many people, and her legacy of faith and love will continue through her family. Praying that God wraps His arms around all who loved her and brings peace, comfort, and strength in the days ahead.
