John Schnepper, age 68, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 13, 2025, at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on March 1, 1957, in Flora, the son of Junior and Evelyn (Devore) Schnepper. John grew up in Clay City, where he developed a love for the outdoors and hard work. He worked for Abbott Tank Company, got his hands dirty at Harvel Fertilizer, and later laid carpet for Vaughn’s Furniture. But it was at North American Lighting (NAL) in Flora where John would leave his greatest professional mark, dedicating over 24 years as a skilled and dependable technician.
John was an avid hunter and looked forward to the time spent outdoors with his family. He took great pride in his home and loved doing yard work, gardening, and relaxing on the back porch with a cold beer. John also loved his truck and keeping it spotless, because in his words, “a vehicle drives better when it’s clean.”
On March 2, 1996, John married the love of his life, Kristina Butcher. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. He is survived by his wife; 4 children: Michael (Michelle) Schnepper, Emily (Scott) Riggs, Hanna (Matt) Page, and Abbey Schnepper; 12 grandchildren: Quentin Grayson, Macie Schnepper, Isabella Grayson, Lauren Schnepper, Harper Page, Hazel Page, Carter Roberson, Cooper Roberson, Halle Page, Moriah Felter, Malynda Waite, and, arriving in December, Macaulay Page.
He is also survived by his father-in-law: Pete Butcher; brothers: Gary (Linda) Schnepper, Paul (Regina) Schnepper, and Glen (Linda) Schnepper; sister: Barbara (Dana) Milligan; sister-in-law: Cathy Schnepper; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Junior and Evelyn Schnepper; brother: Danny Schnepper; grandson: Christopher Riggs; and mother-in-law: Jencie Butcher.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Tim Schnautz officiating. Interment will follow in Dillman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. John’s wishes were for donations to be used for a local charitable need. A list of suggestions will be provided at the funeral home, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
