Interment: Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Lemont, Illinois
Sandra Lee Sabin, age 87, of Effingham, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, Orland Park, and Elwood, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.
She was born May 4, 1938, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Marie Agnes (Pitt) Potyandy. She was united in marriage to Franklin Sylvester Sabin, who preceded her in passing in April of 1994.
Sandra worked as a phlebotomist for many years, and when she wasn’t in the lab, or spending time with her family, she was sharing her creative talents with her students in her ceramics classes. She often entered crafting competitions where she earned first-place for many of her beautiful creations. Her creative talents were not limited to ceramics, she also enjoyed cross stitch and handcrafting various gifts for her friends and family. She similarly had a love for baking and showcased her culinary abilities during her favorite times of the year, birthdays and holidays. Everyone always said, “She baked the best chocolate chip cookies!”
Sandra was an avid reader, she enjoyed the thrills of fiction, but also had a deep appreciation for history, especially World War II. If she didn’t have a book in hand, you could find her working a jigsaw puzzle or finishing one of her cross-stitch pieces while tuning in to the History Channel, ION TV, or wherever she could catch the Cubs game. As a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, she tried her best to never miss a game, and was overcome with joy when her beloved Cubs finally won the World Series in 2016. She treasured time spent with dear friends and family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren nurtured her youthful spirit.
Sandra is survived by her 3 sons: Frank “Mike” (Michelle) Sabin of Xenia, Patrick (Debbie) Sabin of Shorewood, and Richard (Nony) Sabin of Monee; grandchildren: Derrek (Rachel) Sabin of Columbia, Missouri, Jessica Smith of Shorewood, Robert (Ashley) Lindgren of Glen Ellyn and Kailee (Dustin) Charles of Flora; great-grandchildren: Lexi, Peyton, Michael, Kevin, Aldric, Dawson, Grayson, and a highly anticipated great-granddaughter on the way. She was also survived by close family friends, who were more family than friends, the Miller, Rezek, and Cepek families.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, her husband Frank, and best friends, Lou and Jean Miller, Pam Burns, and Randy Miller.
Private family services will be held at a later date with interment in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Lemont, Illinois. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Paralyzed & Disabled American Veterans, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
