Graveside Ceremony:  10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem

Walter Lowell Sons, age 52, of Cisne, Illinois, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.

He was born October 3, 1972, in Flora, the son of Lowell Beryl and Barbara Lucille (Cook) Sons.

Walter had been a driver for Bayles Trucking for several years.  From a young age, he dreamed of becoming a semi-truck driver, often using his imagination to travel the highways and talk on a C.B. radio.  His lifelong passion for automobiles showed in his enjoyment of car shows and his collection of model cars.  He cherished time with family and especially looked forward to the chance to steal the deviled eggs.

He is survived by his son: Jarod T. Sons of Flora; brothers: Jeffrey (Paula) Sons of Salem and Gary (Cindy) Sons of Woodbridge Virginia; a sister: Carol (Ron) Pruitt of Kell; girlfriend: Teresa Clifton of Cisne; stepdaughter: Ashley (Michael) Kell of Xenia; grandchildren: Braelynn, Bentley, Bristol, and Bryce; nieces: Amy H., Angie, Amy P., Nicci, Stephanie, Samantha, Jeannie, and Crystal; nephews: Ronnie Jr., Caleb, and Christopher; and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents: Beryl and Lela Sons; and maternal grandparents: Leland and Lucy Cook.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem.  Those who wish to attend are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery.  Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Memorial donations are suggested to the family to assist with final expenses, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.  Please make checks payable to Frank & Bright Funeral Home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com

So sorry for your loss. Walter was a great guy and I've known him for years. We hung out in Flora and spent many a night up on the cruse just talking. He helped me get a job at GSI the year he worked there, he drove fork truck in back moving things around and I did in front unloading and putting things away. I was just thinking about him the other day. He will be missed.

Grew up together. Walter was such a great guy. About a year ago, he gave us some kittens. Made my little girl so happy. I have many memories of Walter. From him drawing square body Chevy trucks in grade school, to him scaring the tar out of me when he pulled me over North of Louisville one night running a blue light, to going to college together at Kaskaskia, and some fun nights messing with people on the CB. To his family and those impacted most by his loss, prayers of comfort and may joyful memories hold him close always.
