Visitation: 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home
Tammye Burge, age 59, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.
She was born April 7, 1964, in Flora, the daughter of Clint and Karren Elaine (Jennings) Powell. She was united in marriage to Michael L. Burge on September 19, 1992, at the Iuka Bethel Church and together they have shared 30 wedding anniversaries.
Tammye was a loving mother, grandmother, and foster mother, as she and Mike had fostered several children over the years. In addition, they had owned the Burge House in Flora since 2005. She attended Strong Tower Church in Flora, often volunteering her time wherever needed. Tammye was a lifetime Girl Scout and member of the Centralia VFW. She enjoyed reading, fishing, and helping with various scouting activities.
She is survived by her husband Mike Burge of Flora; children: Stephenie (Michael) Dickerson of Flora, Jenny Huynh of Effingham, Dakota (Josh) Kemmerer of Iuka, Alexis Barnick of Louisville, Angie Burge of Louisville, and David Burge of Flora; father: Clint Powell of Russelville, Alabama; 9 grandchildren; and 2 brothers: Neale (Sharon) Powell of Perkinston, Mississippi, and Dustin (Casey) Hodge of Iuka.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Karren Elaine Hodge; a grandson: Christian Scaggs; and stepfather: Charlie Hodge.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Strong Tower Church and will be accepted through the funeral home. Mike and Family: my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I have known you guys for a long time since you originally were my neighbors when I first moved to S. Main St. I watched your kids grow up and of course saw you and Tammy out and about. I know she has not been in good health, and she was certainly taken way too soon, you and your children are in my prayers
