Ranard Lee Greenwood, age 91, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday morning, September 24, 2020, at Richland Nursing & Rehabilitation in Olney.

He was born September 18, 1929, in Clay County, Illinois, the son of Alto and Rose Anna (Cooper) Greenwood.  He was united in marriage to Betty Rose Williams on November 16, 1948, in Flora, Illinois, and together they shared 71 wedding anniversaries until her death April 26, 2020.

Ranard worked for the railroad after high school before going to work at the shoe factory until they closed.  He later worked as a janitor at Flora High School.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.  He also enjoyed playing washers and even traveled to play in washer tournaments where he won several trophies.  Ranard loved to tell jokes and was known as the family comedian.  He often reminisced of times spent dancing with Betty at the Flora Hub and cherished memories of their many years spent together.  Ranard was a member of First Baptist Church in Louisville.

He is survived by 5 children: Tom (Pat) Greenwood of Xenia, Danny (Debbie) Greenwood of Flora, Debbie (Matt) Kuenstler of Louisville, Marty Greenwood (Gena Block) of Flora, and Rodney Greenwood of Flora; 38 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Bill (Donna) Greenwood of Olney; a sister: Sharon (John) Brickey of Flora; a sister-in-law: Edith Greenwood of Flora; and a brother-in-law: Bob Williams of Flora.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Betty Greenwood; 2 brothers: Pete and Eldon “Duck”; 3 sisters: Bonnie, Wilma, and Elizabeth; a grandson: Nick Compton; a granddaughter: Ashley Ames; 3 great-grandsons; and 1 great-granddaughter.

A funeral ceremony will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.  In accordance with an Illinois mandate, wearing a face mask and following social distancing guidelines is recommended.  Memorial donations are suggested to the family to assist with final expenses and will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a memory or condolence visit: www.frankandbright.com

It is a sad day for all who loved Ranard, but a happy day for him. He and Betty must be walking around heaven, holding hands and enjoying the beauty! The last time I saw him he gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me that he had finally forgiven me for the scrape I put on his red Rambler over 50 years ago trying to learn to drive!

Tom and Pat, Remember all of the holiday meals that you invited Betty and Ranard to at our house (esp. Christmas'), all the hunting trips, the vacations, the camping trips, the times we all went out to eat, the daily excursions and even all the doctor appointments that you took them to. They were like family to us too and so much fun to be around. May all the memories you created spending so much time with them here on earth help ease the pain of losing them.
