Ed Baker

Jan 24th, 1962 - Sep 6th, 2025

Gerald Edward “Ed” Baker, age 63, of Flora, Illinois, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Integrity Healthcare in Marion.

Ed was born January 24, 1962, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Gerald Alan and Rachel L. (Swalls) Baker.  Ed lived a life marked by service, dedication, and enduring family bonds.

Ed proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Machinist’s Mate Fireman (MRFN-E3) from October 16, 1979, to June 7, 1983.  His time in the Navy reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment to something greater than himself.

He was also a craftsman, building and remodeling homes, and an expert welder.  He spent time as an over-the-road truck driver.  He enjoyed training and riding horses, and had lots of good memories of the times he spent camping and fishing with family and friends.

He is survived by his 4 children: Cassie (Dale) Colter of Paris, Ryan (Kelsey) Baker of Effingham, Chad (Elle) Baker of Chicago, and Jonathan Baker of Rinard; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Dennis Baker of Arthur and Carl (Angie) Baker of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his former wife and friend: Sally Baker of Rinard; 3 stepchildren: Brianne Casey of Rinard, Vanessa (Jeff) Anderson of Cisne; and Matthew Lane of Kincheloe, Michigan; and 2 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; a brother: John Alan Baker; a sister-in-law: Janice Baker; and 4 step-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be planned in the future.  Frank & Bright Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
