Jon Masters

Aug 19th, 1951 - Jan 11th, 2024

Jon Anthony Masters, age 72, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Clay County Hospital.

He was born August 19, 1951, in Flora, the son of Lynn and Johannah Jane (Glassford) Masters.  On September 10, 1972, he married Connie Sue Johnson, and they continued their lifelong journey together while celebrating 51 wedding anniversaries.

Jon was a graduate of Flora High School and went on to 27 years of employment at World Color Press in Salem.  When the time came for a career change, Jon ventured on a new path involving aviation, and he earned a degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology at Vincennes University, achieving Magna Cum Laude honors.  His advancing skills and passion for his work led him to a distinguished 17-year tenure as the Aviation Crew Chief Mechanic for American Airlines in Springfield, Missouri.

Jon's spiritual foundation was expressed in his membership at Flora First Methodist Church.  His interests were diverse, and ranged from playing guitar, indulging in his love for cars, vacationing in favorite destinations like Hawaii, to finding everyday satisfaction in hands-on projects involving making and fixing all sorts of things.  Jon's greatest joys were especially found in the company of his children and grandchildren, and alongside Connie throughout their lifetime of cherished and unforgettable memories.

He is survived by his wife: Connie Masters of Flora; 3 children: Wendy Masters Bunnell (Dusty Beccue) of Flora, Jon C. (Nikki) Masters of Flora, and Robyn (Luke) Masters Stanford of Flora; 11 grandchildren: Adam Bunnell, Emma Bunnell, Ellie Bunnell, Abriana Williams, Brayden Masters, River Masters, Briar Masters, Branch Masters, Dakota Spitzner, Rosalynn Stanford, and Cash Stanford; a sister: Lisa Masters Erbacher of Flora; mother-in-law: Shirley Blackwell Burdine of Flora; sisters-in-law: Norma Masters of Florissant, Missouri; Brenda (Sonny) Perry of Flora, April Kirkpatrick (Joe Decker) of Flora, Jane (Darrell) Gregory of Effingham, and Kim (Mark) Smith of Flora; brother-in-law: Bobby (Kathy) Johnson of Flora; and his beloved toy poodles: Babette and Janko.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; 2 sisters: Janette Masters Gresham and Teri Masters Dhom; brother: Nelson Masters; and a brother-in-law: Carl Johnson.
