Evanell Burroughs

   Evanell Burroughs, age 96, of Iuka, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Flora Gardens Care Center.

   She was born September 9, 1922, in Wayne County, the daughter of Clarence and Nora (Belden) Jones.  She was united in marriage to Loyal D. Burroughs September 2, 1939, and together they shared 62 years of marriage before his death August 1, 2002.

   Evanell was a dedicated farm wife and belonged to the Home Extension.  A lifetime member of New Liberty General Baptist Church, she and Loyal also shared their voices in praise as they sang together for special duets. Evanell enjoyed gardening and tending to the irises, daffodils, petunias and other pretty flowers throughout her yard.  She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her lovely sense of humor and quick wit. 

   She is survived by a daughter: Elaine (Joe) Welty of Xenia; daughters-in-law: Karon Burroughs of Iuka, Carol Burroughs of Kell, and Jan Burroughs of Joplin, Missouri; son-in-law: Herman “Sonny” Colclasure of Xenia; 12 grandchildren: Terry (Lynn) Burroughs, Rodney (Roberta) Colclasure, Tony (Kandi) Colclasure, Troy Burroughs, Stephen (Kim) Burroughs, Jennifer (Jason) Timm, Robin (Calvin) Booth, Robb (Tammy) Fisher, David Burroughs, LaRanda (Jeff) Ferrero, Angie (Brett) Bundy, and Alane (Keith) Golubski; 30 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children: Jerry Burroughs, James Burroughs, Alan Burroughs, and Donna Joan Colclasure; 3 sisters: Charlotte (Glen) Allison, Wanda Jones, and Verlene Jennings Ward; and 2 brothers: Harlen (Fern) Jones and Raymond Jones.

   A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Bro. Bill Prince officiating.  Interment will follow in New Liberty Cemetery.  Visitation will be 1:30 until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations are suggested to New Liberty General Baptist Church or to any charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted through the funeral home.
