George Davis

   George Davis, age 83, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, formerly of Flora, Illinois, passed away August 3, 2018, at his home.

   He was born March 23, 1935, in Flora, the son of John Allen and Lucille Fern (Compton) Davis.  George first married Gloria Pugh on February 9, 1957, in Killeen, Texas, and they later divorced.  He was married to Delilah (Schuler) Easly on March 4, 1980, in Salem, and she preceded him in death March 22, 1985.  Delilah’s children included 8 daughters and 1 son.  He later married Rilda Wooten Bowlin on July 22, 1987, and she preceded him in death July 15, 2006.

   George served in the U.S. Army in Korea and later the Army Reserves for 20 years in Waco, Texas.  He continued his service through the National Guard of Effingham.  He was employed by Peerless of America in Effingham, and International Paper Co. in Kansas, and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Masons, Moose, and Eagles.  George enjoyed fishing, hunting, trips to the casino, gardening, spending time with family members and especially sharing the companionship of his pet dogs.   

   He is survived by 1 brother: Gary (Darlene) Davis of Salem; several nieces and nephews; 4 stepchildren: Mike (Anna) Bowlin of Texas, Steve (Joyce) Bowlin of Kansas, Gloria (Ken) Dudley of Missouri, and Gail Boyer of Kansas; 16 step-grandchildren; 32 step-great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 wives; 8 brothers and sisters:  Emery Allen Davis, Robert Earl Davis, Doris Louise Montgomery, Mamie Josephine Brown, Estel Priscilla Erickson, Richard Arlan Davis, Rosemary Davis, and John Robert Davis; and 3 stepchildren:  Phyllis Atkinson, Jim Bowlin, and Barbara Mullikin.

   A Celebration of Life Ceremony for George Davis will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  A gathering time to visit prior the ceremony will be from 2 until 3 p.m.  A procession to Elmwood Cemetery and interment will follow with the presentation of military funeral honors.  Memorial donations are suggested to Fur A Good Paws in Flora and will be accepted through the funeral home.
