Kevin Kendrick

Feb 25th, 1955 - Sep 21st, 2017

John Kevin Kendrick, age 62, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 21, 2017, at home in the care of his loving family.

He was born February 25, 1955, in Johnston City, the son of the late Weldon and Dorothy (DiPietro) Kendrick.  He was united in marriage to Nancy Reid on April 9, 1983, during a ceremony at the Cisne Christian Church.

Kevin, or “KK” to most of his friends, will be remembered for his great sense of humor and often being the life of the party, while making certain those around him were enjoying themselves as well.  Sharing family time during holidays, especially Christmas, are some of the best cherished memories.  In recent months, his grandson and granddaughters became the shining light of his life.  A graduate of Fairfield High School where he was active in sports, he went on to attend Austin Peay State University where he was a football recruit and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha.  He was a member of Flora Elks Lodge #1659, and served on the advisory board for the newly-formed No More Nicotine (NMN) Club in Flora in 1994.  For many years, Kevin worked in the oil fields and was a member of the Laborers Union, and most recently had been part of the security department at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.  He enjoyed spending days visiting the beach during getaways, playing golf, and had an interest in fishing and woodworking.  Lastly, Kevin wouldn’t want to leave out that he was a tried-and-true fan of both the St. Louis Cardinals and Alabama Crimson Tide.

He is survived by his wife: Nancy Kendrick of Flora; 2 daughters: Leslie (husband Cody) Brubaker of Iuka and Megan (husband Jared) Payne of Louisville; 3 grandchildren: Thea, Bryar, and Kadalynn; a brother: Sidney (wife Toni) Kendrick of Bloomington; a sister Marcia (husband Jerry) Blades of Broomfield, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service for Kevin Kendrick will be held 6 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Friends and relatives are invited to a time of visitation from 4 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Clay County Hospice and will be accepted through the funeral home.
