Kay Rudy

   Kay O. Rudy, age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 11, 2017, at her home in Flora.

   Kay was born August 9, 1937, in El Dorado, Arkansas, the daughter of Joseph and Willie B. (Morgan) Ober.  She married Richard Kent Rudy on September 9, 1956, in Louisville, and together they shared 53 years of marriage.  Richard preceded her in death on the same day as Kay, 7 years prior, July 11, 2010.  She was a member of Flora First United Methodist Church and a former member of Beta Sigma Phi.  Following Richard’s death, Kay assumed duties as president of JW Rudy and R&B Corporation. She enjoyed the winters spent in Florida, traveling, shopping, spending time with family and friends, and working outside in the flowers.

   Kay is survived by her children: Sharon Fry of Fairfield, Steve Rudy (wife Ginny) of Flora, David Rudy (wife Marsha) of Flora, and Scott Rudy of Flora; daughter-in-law: Tammy Rudy of Noble; brother: Mike Ober (wife Martha) of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law: Beverly Zimmerman of Mount Dora, FL; 10 grandchildren: Emily (Lynn) VanWinkle, Sara (Ben) Wochner, Kristen Rudy, Lauren (Zach) Buchanan, Nick Rudy, Clayton Plumlee, Bryan (Jennifer) Rudy, Mallory (Nathan) Loker, Brianna (Chris) Weir, and Alison Rudy;  14 great-grandchildren: Carlie, Grace, Genevieve, Wesley, Kate, Sophia, Vera, Ellarie, Aria, Dominic, Dylan, Brady, Camryn and Ezra; along with many nieces and nephews, and her beloved Yorkie, Cassie.  A special thanks to caregiver, Heather Hower.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Jeffrey; 2 brothers: Stephen and Billy J. Ober; brother-in-law: Edward “Zip” Zimmerman; and son-in-law: Dennis Fry.

   A visitation for Kay Rudy will be Friday, July 14, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A private graveside service and interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations may be given to HSHS Hospice of Southern Illinois, Flora First United Methodist Church, and Clay County Food Pantry and these will be accepted at the funeral home.
