Kent Hoard

   Kent Hoard, age 69, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016, at his home in Xenia.

   Kent was born November 17, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Kenneth Kenton and Belva Odessa (Williams) Hoard.  He was united in marriage to Sherry Burt on October 20, 1979.  Kent was a Fire Control Technician while serving in the U.S. Navy from 1965-69 where he was stationed in Europe, and later was part of the Reserves and an assignment with the Seabees and Construction Battalion.  He later was employed as a skilled trade carpenter.  Kent enjoyed tent camping with family, traveling, and was a dedicated fan of St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.  He was an involved member of Xenia United Methodist Church, and held memberships in the the Flora Elks Lodge, and American Legion.  Kent was not hesitant to express that he loved his grandchildren.

   He is survived by his wife: Sherry Hoard; children: Robby Breeze (Vanessa) of Evansville, Indiana, Erica Walden (John) of Flora, and Ariane Souder (Mike) of Xenia; 11 grandchildren: Amanda Breeze, Whitney, Colton, and Rylie Westerfield, Clayton, Emma and Carder Walden, and Andrew, Abigail, Kinley and Keeley Souder; 2 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Gary Burt (Jan) of San Diego, California; beloved Maltipoo “Lilly”; along with several nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

   A funeral service for Kent Hoard will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Xenia United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob McNeely officiating.  Interment will follow in Campground Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Xenia United Methodist Church and also from 1p.m. until the hour of service on Sunday at the church.  Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that memorial donations be given to Clay County Cancer Crusaders or a fund to assist with future family care expenses and these will be accepted at the funeral home.
