Virginia Valbert

Oct 24th, 1923 - Feb 12th, 2016

Virginia A. Valbert, age 92, a long-time Flora resident and business owner, passed away the evening of Friday, February 12, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at Clay County Hospital.

She was born October 24, 1923, near Xenia, the daughter of Glenn and Mildred (Richardson) Burkett.  She married Francis E. Valbert on May 11, 1946, in Flora.  Together, they owned and operated Valbert’s Feed Store, and after Francis passed away May 21, 1986, Virginia continued to operate the business until she semi-retired at age 76.  She continued to help around Valbert’s, and especially appreciated springtime and the new start of every lawn and garden season, both at the store and around her home.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Flora, and served as Sunday school teacher during the years her children were growing up.  She was a den mother in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother.  Virginia and Francis took a number of wonderful trips together, and she enjoyed golfing and bowling.  In recent years, reading became a favorite pastime for her.  She was a member of the Flora American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years.

Virginia is survived by her daughter: Linda Kay Valbert of Flora; a son: Steven (Cindy) Valbert of Flora; 4 grandchildren: Rebecca Hart of Monroe, Michigan, Brian Wayne (Kristi) Guinn of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Joshua D. Harrison of Lawrenceville, and Jacob E. (Dusty) Harrison of Bridgeport; 3 great-grandchildren: Isaac and Jesse Guinn, and Gabriella Harrison; as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Francis Valbert; 2 brothers: Frank and Jim Burkett; and a sister: Pat Howe.

A funeral service for Virginia Valbert will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.  A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations in Virginia's memory are suggested to Clay County 4-H or to Fur A Good Paws, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory with the family, visit www.frankandbright.com.
