Lewis "Sonny" Hockman

   Lewis Edward “Sonny” Hockman, age 84, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at his home in Flora.

   Sonny was born on June 2, 1931 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Nellie (Greenwood) Hockman.  He and Esther Craig were married by Roy C. Blackmore on January 9, 1952, at the First Christian Church Parsonage.      

   Sonny has been a very active member of First Christian Church in Flora since 1954, where he was a member of the Beau Knot Class, served as Sunday School Superintendent, was on the church board, and served as a deacon.

   Sonny was employed in the oil field and later became the owner/operator of Hockman Oil Company and East End Texaco.  After retirement, he worked part time at Clay County Industries as the bus maintenance manager.  Over the years, Sonny enjoyed camping, square dancing, wood working, and lawn care.  He was very fortunate to have many close friends and a close family that he loved dearly.

   Sonny is survived by his loving wife: Esther; two sons: Michael Hockman and Doug (Marsha) Hockman both of Flora; two granddaughters: Amy (Tommy) Simpson of Flora and Carrie (Ryan) Ford of LeRoy; 4 great-grandchildren: Jalynn, Kyler, and Peyton Ford, and Gage Simpson; 3 step-great-granddaughters: Jessica, Brittney, and Elizabeth Simpson; 2 sisters: Martha Rebman of Zion and Betty Blackwell of Ravena, OH; sisters-in-law: Marie Hockman of Flora and Jean (Danny) Fender of Louisville; brother-in-law: Bud Garver of Baltimore, MD; along with many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Robert and Everett Hockman, two sisters: Ruth Hockman and Virginia Garver; in-laws: Frank and Deletha (Sehie) Craig, and brother-in-law: Bob Blackwell.

   A funeral service for Sonny Hockman will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.  Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be given to First Christian Church or Clay County Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.  Share online condolences and memories with the family at www.frankandbright.com.
