Donald Headlee

   Donald E. Headlee, age 82, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at his home in Flora. 

   Don was born February 17, 1933 in Louisville, IL, to Harvey “Jim” and Ethel (Erwin) Headlee.  He married Queda Jenkins on January 15, 1952 in Castro Valley, CA, and they shared 63 anniversaries together.  Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Iola where he was baptized February 27, 2014.

   Don and Queda spent their early married years in California and it was during these years that Don worked at Hunt’s Cannery, Berkley Farms Dairy, and gas stations.  Don and Queda moved back to Flora where he continued to work and manage several area gas stations, including IGA, Imperial Gas Station, Standard, and was at C-Mart for more than 15 years.  Don also enjoyed his job as courier for the Clay City Banking Company locations, considering it the best job he ever had.  He often helped his son and grandson, owners of Headlee Shingle & Siding, with roofing work. Cars were one of Don’s hobbies and he helped start the Chevy Cruisers Car Club.  He also enjoyed taking care of his late dogs, Chance and Solomon. 

   Don is survived by his wife: Queda Headlee of Flora; one daughter: Brenda Pittman of Louisville; one son: Brent (Marie) Headlee of Flora; five grandchildren: Chandra (Justin) Eckelberry, Charla (Damian) Proctor, Blake Headlee, Brandon (Jacqueline) Headlee, and Blaine Headlee; 7 great-grandchildren: Jace, Chayli, Caleb, Alaiya, Kayden,Conner, and Alivia; and two brothers-in-law: Rex Lackey of Fresno, CA, and Jack Jenkins of Toledo.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

   A graveside service for Don Headlee will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Red Brush Cemetery, Louisville.  There is no visitation.  Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora is in charge of arrangements.  Memorial donations may be given to the family to assist with expenses and will be accepted at the funeral home.
