Jerry Young

   Jerry A. Young, age 70, of Flora, Illinois passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.

   Jerry was born July 2, 1945 in Clay County to Charlie “Pappy” and Sarah (Sehie) Young.  He married Billye J. Schell on April 10, 1965 at First Christian Church in Flora, recently celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  

   Jerry traveled to many states and became a manager while working for Halliburton for 30 years.  After retiring from Halliburton, he then went to work for Bradford Supply, where he retired after 12 years.  Family was Jerry’s priority.  He enjoyed playing with his 2 grandsons and great-grandson and loved taking road trips with his grand-dog “Mylee” and his dog “B.J.”.  You’d often find Jerry at Wes’ shop, sharing stories with the customers and reminiscing about the oilfield days.  He also loved traveling, going to garage sales, and having campouts at the farm.  Jerry attended the Xenia United Methodist Church.

   He is survived by his wife: Billye J. Young of Flora; 2 sons: David W. (Tina) Young of Flora and Wes Young of Flora; 2 grandsons: Creed (Amber Ashby) Young and Kobe Young both of Flora; a great-grandson: Cooper Young and another great-grandchild yet to be born: Harper Lynn; 2 brother-in-laws: Dennis (Pam) Schell and Jack Schell; 2 sister-in laws: Melba Young and Linda (Ronnie) Stinson; 8 nieces and nephews: Tess (the late Jim) Wackerlin, Traci Schell, A.J. (Jennifer) Schell, Cristy (Kevin) Welty, Lee Ann (Craig) Walker, Matt Schell, Mandy Schell, Sharon (the late Rex) Young; special friend: Eileen Enlow; along with a special Yorkie “B.J.”.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Don Young, an infant sister: Betty, his in-laws: Norman and Bernice Schell, and Juanita Schell, and 2 nephews: Glenn Young and Rex Young.

   A funeral service for Jerry Young will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be given to Clay County Cancer Crusaders and will be accepted at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be shared at www.frankandbright.com.
