Jake Hardy

   Jake Eugene Hardy, age 85, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

   Jake was born November 22, 1929 in Clay County, Illinois, to George and Jessie (Proctor) Hardy.  He married Janet McCann on October 20, 1984, at the First Church of God in Flora.  Jake served as an MP in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from World Color Press after 15 years.  He also worked at Valley Steel, Shulman Brothers, Sparton Manufacturing, and on oil rigs in Kansas.  Jake was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and American Legion.  He enjoyed fishing, listening to gospel music, and will be remembered for his delicious grilled steaks.

   He is survived by his wife: Janet Hardy of Flora; son: Randy (Nancy) Hardy of Clay City; step-daughter: Tina (Mike) Winka of Flora; 3 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and 1 expected great-grandchild on the way, along with many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Beth Hardy, 3 brothers: Joe, Frank, and Henry Hardy, and 2 sisters: Elizabeth Merriman and Martha Schweppe.

   A funeral service for Jake Hardy will be held at 12 p.m. (Noon) Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, with military honors.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be given to Oil Belt Christian Service Camp and will be received at the funeral home.
