Charles Oestreich

   Charles T. Oestreich, age 87, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, April 1st, 2015, at his home in Flora.

   Charles was born January 6, 1928 in Centralia, Illinois, to Charles and Clara (Gutzler) Oestreich.  He married Rose Mary Felton on June 20, 1948 in Centralia.  Charles was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW.  He was a carpenter and oil field operator early in his career.  Later he managed the Flora Marathon Station.  He retired from Henkels & McCoy in Salem, as a mechanic.  Charles loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and walking to the pond.  He enjoyed reading westerns, and when his eyesight failed, he enjoyed watching them.  Charles was happiest just being at home in Oskaloosa.  He was of the Lutheran faith.

   He is survived by his wife, Rose, and their eight children: Steve (Carol) Oestreich of Louisville, Debby (David) Devore of Flora, Randy (Janet) Oestreich of Kinmundy, Mark (Patty) Oestreich of Flora, Patty (Dale) Loehr of Flora, Lori (Tim) VanDyke of Hord, Tim (RaeAnn) Oestreich of Flora, and Angie (Kevin) Connell of Flora; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter: Cheryl, great-grandson: Bryce, two brothers, and four sisters.

   A funeral service for Charles Oestreich will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will be in Oskaloosa Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be made to Clay County Cancer Crusaders and will be accepted at the funeral home.
