Roy Dickerson

   Roy E. “Ed” Dickerson, age 71, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. 

   Roy was born August 10, 1943 in Xenia, to Roy and Grace (Adams) Dickerson.  He married Anita Sharp on July 18, 1981 at Union Church in Iuka.  During his service to his country in the U.S. Army, Roy was stationed in Germany.  He worked as a farm mechanic and machinist and was a member of Xenia Community Church.  His hobbies were drawing, painting and woodburning, but had also enjoyed fishing and hunting in the past.  Roy loved his grandkids and his special buddy “Stewie”.

   He is survived by his wife: Anita Dickerson of Flora; 3 children: Shelly (Scott) Billington of Flora, Michael (Stephenie) Dickerson of Flora, Jana (David) Renfrow of Olney; 8 grandchildren: Jodi (Adam) Cox of Olney, Tara (James) Stanford of Flora, Zachary Allison of Flora, Dakota and Jayla Wyatt of Olney, Brooklynn and Makayla Renfrow of Olney, and Janessa Dickerson of Flora; 2 great-grandchildren: Ian Cox of Olney and Lillian Stanford of Flora; 1 brother: Jim (Cathy) Dickerson of Flora; brother-in-law: George Knackmuhs of West Salem; mother-in-law: Elsie (the late Leonard) Sharp of Keenes; along with several aunts and 3 nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Judith K. Knackmuhs.

   A funeral service for Roy Dickerson will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will be in New Home (Lowery) Cemetery, Papertown, with military honors.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Thursday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.  Memorial donations may be given to Flora Assembly of God and will be received at the funeral home.  To share a condolence, visit www.frankandbright.com.
