   Bettie Ann Beard, age 72, of Xenia, Illinois passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at her home in Xenia.

   Ann was born June 4, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to Carl and Jean (Thompson) Husk.  She married James R. Connell on December 4, 1970 in Vienna, Illinois.  He preceded her in death April 12, 1992.  She later married Gale Beard on September 18, 2008.  Ann worked at Anderson’s Bakery and later at Clay County Hospital Dietary Department for 15 years.  She enjoyed many activities including flower and vegetable gardening, fishing, painting, puzzles, mushroom hunting, antiques, watching tennis and HGTV and also loved her baby dogs: Abby, Brandi, Sophie, and Dewey.  Ann loved her family and enjoyed the times everyone gathered for cookouts.

   Ann is survived by her husband Gale Beard of Xenia; children: Cindy McNeely of Flora, Sam (T.J.) Cook Jr. of Sandoval, Jeff Cook (Jennifer Anderson) of Flora, Melanie (Bill) Brown of Altamont; step-children: Randy Beard of Louisville, Staci Beard Houston of Flora, and Ron (Joetta) Connell of Missouri; grandchildren: Jennifer Smith (Jesse Campos) of Flora, Leslie (Kelly) Colclasure of Flora, Brenton (Mallory) Cook of Granite City, Bethany (Andrew) Hanks of Salem, Jenna Cook of Effingham, Danielle (Colby) Klinger of Oregon, Paige Brown of Altamont; step-grandchildren: Taylor Harmon, Miayah Houston, and Ethan Houston all of Flora; great-grandchildren: Lexi Smith, Payton Campos, Madison Eastin, Braxton Oestreich, Brady M. Rushing, Ozzy Klinger, and soon to arrive, Harrison Cook; and a brother: Jimmy (Deb) Husk.  She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, her brother Paul Husk, and great-grandchild Brendan Smith.

   A graveside service for Ann Beard will be held for family and friends at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Shadden Cemetery, rural Iuka.  There will be no visitation.  If attending the graveside service, you may go directly to the cemetery or those wishing to travel in the procession to Shadden Cemetery may meet at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora by 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Clay County Cancer Support Group or Clay County Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.  To leave a condolence or share a memory with the family visit www.frankandbright.com.

From the East (Flora)

Travel approximately 12 miles and turn right* (north) on Foster Lane/Co Rd 2325.  Travel approximately 3 miles on Foster Lane, and cemetery will be on your left, immediately after road curves sharply to left.

*Foster lane is the 2nd right after the Greendale overpass.

 

From the West (Salem)

Travel approximately 13 miles and turn left (north) on Foster Lane/Co Rd 2325.  Travel approximately 3 miles on Foster Lane, and cemetery will be on your left, immediately after road curves sharply to left.
