Ruby Glassford

May 30th, 1926 - Sep 29th, 2026

Ruby G. Glassford, age 100, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday night, September 29, 2026, at Axiom Gardens of Flora. Just four months earlier, her family came together from near and far to celebrate a remarkable century of life, a day they will treasure always.

She was born May 30, 1926, in Xenia, Illinois, the daughter of the late Curtis and Nellie Mae (Barr) Griffith. On March 28, 1948, she married Fred J. "Pete" Glassford in Flora, and for 66 years they walked through life hand in hand, until Pete's passing on August 8, 2014.

A beautician by trade, Ruby was known for always looking lovely, especially when dressed in her favorite color, red. She was a Gold Star mother, having lost her son Gary, who gave his life serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam in 1970. She and Pete were longtime faithful members of Bloom Baptist Church, and Ruby was a member of the Flora American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries and the Clay County Hospital Auxiliary.

She and Pete enjoyed traveling together over the years, but Ruby was never more at home than on her front porch swing. She loved watching the hummingbirds and keeping an eye out for cardinals, and she treasured a good drive around town and through the countryside, admiring the flowers and the beauty along the way. Nothing brightened her day more than a visit from her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is survived by her four children, Pam (Ken) Smith of Canyon Lake, Texas, Steve (Vicki) Glassford of Olney, Kevin D. Glassford of Flora, and Kim (Lisa) Glassford of Mililani, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Jenny (Darin) Laughlin, Meghan (Jimmy) Chamberlin, Bailey Glassford-Russell, and Morgan Glassford-Russell; five great-grandchildren, Kaylee (Deontri) Dameron, Liam Glassford, Austin Laughlin, Maddie Everett, and Marley Chamberlin; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in passing by her parents; her husband, Pete; her son, Gary Bruce Glassford; a grandson, Chris Glassford; a granddaughter, Kacey Nichole Smith; six brothers; and three sisters.

Ruby was truly one in a million. Her family will look for her in every bright red cardinal and every hummingbird that stops by to say hello.

Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with the funeral ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Bloom Baptist Church. To share a condolence or memory, visit www.frankandbright.com
