
Basil L. Wyman, age 94, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
He was born November 9, 1931, the son of Charles Lowell and Leona (Bonham) Wyman. Basil served in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Imogene Carrell in 1952, and they became parents to three daughters. He later married Peggy Fatheree in 2001, and she preceded him in passing.
Basil spent his life farming, raising cattle and hogs and working the crops. He took pride in the work he did and in providing for his family. He especially enjoyed caring for horses and liked doing just about anything and everything that involved them. He also had a special fondness for his hunting dogs and enjoyed hunting quail, squirrels, and raccoons. Basil was a friend to many and never knew a stranger. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Joyce (Pat) O’Donnell of Xenia, Peggy (Randy) Borcherding of Xenia, and Jo Ella (Dwayne) Wyman of Salem; a brother, Howard (Connie) Wyman of Xenia; 6 grandchildren, Angela (Frank) Edwards of Xenia, Lee (Brooke) O’Donnell of Flora, Jason (Erin) Borcherding of Flora, Gina (Cory) Heuerman of Flora, Scott Fatheree of Xenia, and Jeannie Fatheree of Alabama; 17 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy; his stepmother, Pauline; and 2 sisters, Helen Higgason and Myrtle Beard.
A funeral ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Oskaloosa Cemetery with the presentation of military funeral honors.
