      Nancy Pearl Bayles, age 90, of Rinard, Illinois, passed away Tuesday evening, August 18, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

      She was born September 25, 1935, in Fairfield, the daughter of Carroll and Etta Florence (Daniels) Shreve.  She was united in marriage to Thomas Otto Bayles on March 8, 1959, and together they shared 65 years of marriage until his passing on November 18, 2024.

      Nancy’s life was marked by hard work, creativity, and a caring spirit. Over the years, she worked at the Index Five & Dime store in Fairfield, as a secretary for Wayne White Electric and at the post office in Rinard. Life on the farm was an important part of her story, and she was always willing to lend a hand, whether tending to chores or getting behind the wheel of a tractor. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking, and her salmon patties were a special favorite. Nancy also had a love for art and enjoyed painting with watercolors and creating artwork with colored pencils.

      She is survived by her son, Randy Bayles of Rinard and a host of special friends and family.

      She is preceded in passing by her husband; parents; 2 brothers: William C. (Beverly) and Harold R. Shreve; and 3 sisters: Leona (Carl) Weber, Aline (Marshal) Bullard, and Virginia (Clarence) Short.

      A graveside ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Bunker Cemetery, Rinard, with Bill Prince officiating. Those who wish to attend are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.
