Loren Dunigan

      Loren W. Dunigan, age 88, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Willowbrook of Effingham. 

      He was born September 12, 1936, in Flora, the son of Wilbur A. and Ethel (Barnett) Dunigan.  Loren was united in marriage to Davetta Ann Crown on November 2, 1957, at the Clay City United Methodist Church.  Together, he and Davey celebrated 63 wedding anniversaries.  She passed away March 8, 2021.

      Loren dedicated his life to his faith, family, and farming.  He served for 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a devoted member of the Clay City United Methodist Church, where he had served as a trustee.  He also contributed to his community and beyond through service on the boards of Clay Electric, Clay City Schools, and as the Stanford Township Clerk.  Loren was a Mason and a member of the Clay County Shrine Club, and a member of Clay County Farm Bureau.

      He and Davey enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.  Loren was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Illini basketball, and especially enjoyed watching NBA basketball during the Michael Jordan era.

      He is survived by his daughter: Cathy (Bill) Croy of Clay City; 3 grandchildren: Adam (Lindsey) Croy, Jill (Nate) Vock, and Vanessa (Dustin) Pastrovich; 7 great-grandchildren: Reiston, Griffin, Kennedy, Sophia, Liam, Phoebe, and Benjamin; and a niece: Teri (Chris) Hodge.

      He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife; and 2 brothers: Raymond and Myron.

      A funeral ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.  A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the funeral home.  Memorial donations are suggested to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Clay County Hospital Endowment Foundation, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a memory or condolence visit: www.frankandbright.com
