Sandy Shock

Oct 4th, 1944 - Apr 22nd, 2025

Sandra “Sandy” Laurece (Zajac) Shock, age 80, of Flora, Illinois, went to be home with the Lord on April 22, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.

Sandy was born on October 4, 1944, in Austin, Texas.  She was the daughter of Adolph “Jack” Zajac and Marjorie Corrine (Schuessler) Zajac.  Sandy’s family later moved to Illinois where Sandy graduated from West Richland Community High School in Noble, Illinois on May 31, 1962.  Later in 1962, she married the love of her life, Larry Shock Sr.  They enjoyed fifty-nine wedding anniversaries until Larry’s passing on November 4, 2021.

Sandy was employed at Brown Shoe Factory in Olney for many years and also had various bartending positions.  She later attended Olney Central College where she obtained her degree as an Administrative Assistant.

She is survived by one brother: Steve Zajac of New Mexico; one sister: Phyllis Stauffenberg of Florida; one son:  Larry Shock Jr. (Briana) of Norman, Oklahoma; one daughter: Stephanie Shock (Randy Kessel) of Flora; four granddaughters:  Alexis Shock of Flora, Kyra, Lauren, and Lindsay Shock of Norman, Oklahoma; and one grandson:  Brayden Baker of Flora; and two great-grandchildren: Ezra and Ella Johnson of Flora; and nephew:  Glenn Stauffenberg (Irene) of Flora.  Sandy is preceded in death by her parents and brother Michael Zajac.

Sandy was a social butterfly and never met a stranger.  She was always willing to lend an active ear to listen when someone was in need.  More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and especially cherished the times with her grandkids.  Over the years, she enjoyed her bowling league, rummage sales, resale shops, people watching, playing bingo, and listening to music.

For many years, Sandy was an active member of the VFW & Moose Lodge organizations in Olney & Flora.  Sandy achieved merits and awards for the countless hours of fundraising, and promoting the growth and success of both organizations.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, Illinois.  Memorial donations are suggested to the family for expenses, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit:  www.frankandbright.com
