Jul 17th, 1961 - May 3rd, 2025Ernest Floyd Hays, age 63, of Flora, Illinois, and formerly of Wayne County, passed away Saturday morning, May 3, 2025, at Axiom Healthcare in Flora.
He was born July 17, 1961, in Flora, the son of Etta H. (Hays) Hart. He married Violet (Smith) Hays on October 9,1988, in Morganfield, Kentucky. Violet passed away July 2, 2006.
Ernie had worked in the agriculture industry for several years. He and Violet could often be found strolling around the local county fairs. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Wayne City and enjoyed spending time on the lake fishing with his family. Ernie will be remembered for his calm, easygoing nature and the steady presence he brought to those around him.
He is survived by his son: Steven (Emilie) Hays of Orchardville; and 3 grandsons: Pete, Cale, and Ripp Hays, all of Orchardville. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Violet Hays; mother: Etta Hart; stepfather: Robert “Bob” Hart; sister: Eula Hays; and 2 infant sisters: Sherry and Carrie.
Private family services will be held with interment in Powers Cemetery, Xenia. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.
