Nancy Bassett

        Nancy Elaine Bassett, age 82, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022, in Mt. Vernon.

        She was born May 29, 1940, in Clay City, the daughter of Robert Dale and Lola G. (Coleman) Eastin.  She was united in marriage to Iven M. “Bud” Bassett on December 16, 1972, at First Christian Church in Flora and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

        Nancy was a member of First Christian Church in Flora where she was an active part of the Beau Knot Sunday School class, taught children’s Sunday School, sang in the choir, and participated in the Ladies Group.  She had worked in the school cafeteria, at Clay County Hospital, Ben Franklin, the local Cleaners, and at McDonald’s.  Nancy enjoyed crafts, sewing, knitting, especially afghans, and taking trips to Branson.  She very much enjoyed being with family and time spent watching her great grandkids in sports always put a smile on her face.      

        She is survived by her husband: Bud Bassett of Clay City; 2 daughters: Deborah Klein of Flora and Kimberly (Bryan G.) Bullard of Rinard; grandchildren: Jayson Bassett, Jena Bassett, Jonathan (Lisa) Bullard, and Jennifer (Roger) Collins; great-grandchildren: Rase, Ryder (Taylor), Rowdy, Ava Beth, Rylan, Reagan, Nadia, Stacie, and Kylie; a great-great-granddaughter: Evelynn Elaine; a brother: Robert M. Eastin of Flora; and a sister-in-law: Ruth Lynn of Clay City.

        She was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Jay M. Bassett; an infant son: David Michael Bassett; a granddaughter: Jessika Klein Billingsley; a son-in-law: William E. Klein Jr; 2 brothers: Russell D. Eastin and Norman “Topper” Eastin; and a sister: Delores A. Slover.

        A funeral ceremony will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Floral Garden of Memories Cemetery, Flora.  Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations are suggested to Oil Belt Christian Service Camp and will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
