Bruce Vaultonberg

      Gene Bruce Vaultonberg, age 52, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 27, 2022, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

      He was born April 4, 1970, in Effingham, the son of Lowell and Virginia (Yingst) Vaultonberg.  He was united in marriage to Gabriela Schmidt on June 10, 2005, at the Olney Christian Church and together they have shared 17 wedding anniversaries.

      Bruce drove a truck for McLane Trucking Company.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, shooting guns, taking naps, and cooking.  He loved his children and grandchildren dearly and cherished time spent together with them, especially around the holidays.  Bruce attended Olney Christian Fellowship Church and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Flora.  He accepted Christ on October 17, 2007, and loved reading his Bible.  He would help anyone in need and will be remembered for his kind, giving heart.   

      He is survived by his wife: Gabriela Vaultonberg of Flora; children: Sarah (Andy) Weck of Olney, Johnathan (Christina) Hannel of Spokane, Washington, Marco (Lauretta) Hannel of Knoxville, Tennessee, Nathan Hannel of Ontario, California, and Cristian (Morgan) Hannel of Olney; mother: Virginia Vaultonberg of Louisville; 11 grandchildren: Landon, Justus, Jeremiah, Kayden, Emmalynn, Chase, Enoch, Alice, Reese, Jase, and Oaklee; siblings: Lenora (Daniel) Russel of Iola, Lowell Vaultonberg of Louisville, and Eric Vaultonberg (Amber Mines) of Pekin; a niece: Sarah Russel of Pekin; a nephew: Jeremiah (Veronica) Russel of Louisville; and several other nieces and nephews.  

      He was preceded in death by his father.   

      A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Bunker Cemetery, Rinard.  A visitation will be held from 12 noon until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations have been suggested to the family and will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
