Ruby Shroyer

     Ruby Geraldine Shroyer, age 79, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Tuesday morning, April 26, 2022, at her home.

     She was born March 4, 1943, in Commerce, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Lysander and Alberta Irene (Gross) Taylor.  She was united in marriage to William Edward Shroyer Sr. on December 8, 1961, and he preceded her in death in 1993.

     Ruby worked at Head Start in Flora for 16 years.  She enjoyed flowers, hummingbirds, playing Bingo, and sitting on the front porch with her neighbors, children, and grandchildren.  In her younger years she enjoyed time spent at the cabin with her husband and kids.  Ruby will be remembered for her stubborn ways, and for being a loving mom and grandma.

     She is survived by her children: William Shroyer Jr. (Tammy) of Decatur, Peggy Leigh (Marty) of Cisne, Charles Shroyer (Beth) of Sailor Springs, Shelley Brooks (Brad) of Woodlawn, and James Shroyer (Meagan) of Olney; 21 grandchildren: Nathan Shroyer, Jeremiah Leigh, Krystal Shroyer, Josh Leigh, Dylan Shroyer, Chase Shroyer, Shayley Ashley, Trenton Gray, Hunter Gray, Danielle King, Brevyn Brooks, Destiny Shroyer, Brent Shroyer, Remington Shroyer, Ryver Shroyer, Rayleigh Duvall, Raiden Malone, Evan Hough, Eryn Hough, Jarrod Carter (Ginny), and Jeremy Carter; 17 great-grandchildren: Will Shroyer, Ranger Shroyer, Laith Harrington, Bradessa Scott, Ryston Scott, Liam Leigh, Lilly Young, Brylin Shroyer, Daiah Shroyer, Hadley Gray, Carter Gray, Corbin Gray, Colton Gray, Kaidince Carter, Jaidyn Carter, Kaylee Heck Shroyer, and Hannah Heck; siblings: Freda Payne of Joliet, Katy Gum (Rod) of Oregon, Ann Lincoln of Missouri, and Sandy Kurtz of Olney; several nieces and nephews; special neighbors: Leona McDowell and Tod Weidner; and caring friend: Gloria Frohning.

     She was preceded in death by her parents: Lysander and Alberta Taylor; husband: William “Bucky” Shroyer Sr.; son: Richard Nolan Shroyer; sister: Sharon Harper; brother: Charles Taylor; and a grandson: Brent Edward Shroyer.

     A funeral ceremony will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Doyle Williams officiating.  Interment will follow in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs.  Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
