David Senters

Oct 11th, 1936 - Aug 11th, 2020

David D. Senters, age 83, of Xenia, Illinios passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 11, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born October 11, 1936, in Flora, Illinios, the son of Fredrick Leon and Claris Amelia (Robinson) Senters. He was united in marriage to Sally Tolliver on December 26, 1966, in Louisville, and together they have shared 53 wedding anniversaries.

Dave worked as a carpenter for many years and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  You could often find him working on mowers and shining up old cars.  Among his many skills he also enjoyed playing guitar.  Dave was a true artisan.  He loved taking scenic drives in the country with Sally looking for wildflowers, spending time fishing with his family, and always looked forward to the annual fishing trip on the Big Wabash River.  He cherished spending time with family, whom he always lovingly nicknamed, and his special dogs Molly and Ruby.  Dave always made it a point to never say goodbye, but rather “See you in the funnies.”

He survived by his wife: Sally Senters of Xenia; 2 daughters: Lisa Johns of Xenia and Lillith Davis of Flora; 6 grandchildren: Melissa Hagen, Johnny Wayne Smith, Burtis Wenzel, and Trenton, Taylor, and Hannah Johns; 8 great-grandchildren: Austin Davis, Dylan Sucher, Maleah McKinney, Madison Smith, Tristen Smith, and Claiton, Alexis, and Cody Hagen; siblings: Reg Senters, Pat (Ann) Senters, Margie Senters, and Raleigh Senters; a special nephew: Dave Senters; and several other nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Terri Cook; a grandson: Christopher Lee Davis; and siblings: June, Joe, Gene, Fred, Jack, Jess, and Sammy.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2020, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service on Monday at funeral home. In accordance with an Illinois mandate, face masks will be required, and social distancing is recommended.  Memorial donations are suggested to the family to assist with final expenses and will be accepted through the funeral home.
