Robert B. Garrison, age 40, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Robert was born February 3, 1976, in Fairfield, Illinois, the son of Robert Dean and Lenore (Cottrill) Garrison. He married Cynthia “Cindi” Shuster on August 8, 2001, in Kealakekua, Hawaii.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1998-2006, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY, where he was a member of the 101st Airborne, with whom he served in Iraq, and later stationed at Fort Benning, GA. As an NCO, he was considered an amazing leader and comrade. Robert had been a Cub Scout Leader, enjoyed fishing, and was always tinkering with something around the house. His boys and grandson were his world.
Robert is survived by his wife: Cindi Garrison of Flora; three sons: Austin Birch of Mason, Jonathan Garrison of Flora, and Christian Garrison of Flora; one grandson: Lane Axle Garrison; mother: Lenore Garrison of Flora; father and mother-in-law: John and Regina Shuster of New Mexico; two brothers: Timothy (Jeffrey) Garrison Reece of Carbondale and Raymond (Alicia) Garrison of Flora; maternal grandmother: Loretta Lee of Wayne City; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his extended U.S. Army family. He was preceded in death by his father; son: Damon Robert Garrison; and sister-in-law: Katherine Anne Shuster.
A Celebration of Life service for Robert Garrison will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday. Ben VanHyning will officiate and military honors will be presented at the close of the service. Memorial donations may be given to the family to assist with expenses.

Granny and family I am so sorry for your loss, I did not get the pleasure of meeting Robert, but I know he was a wonderful person, and I thank him for surviving America. My thoughts and prayers are with you all threw this hard time , you are all such wonderful neighbors.

All my love and prayers. I never had the honor of meeting Robert, however I know that he loved his wonderful children and my dear cousin Cindi very much and made her so happy. I had the best experience with Robert when he was a young teen. David Garrison and I brought Robert back to Wisconsin for a while. As we passed the air port he got all excited and was jumping up and down in the car ad was saying wow! Wow!, we were like WHAT! Thinking something was wrong, he was like a kid seeing a dinosaur, he had NEVER seems jet airplane before. I was in awe of his excitement and joy. He was a perfect babysitter for my son and was so kind and would alway jump up to help no matter what the task. Was a pleasure to know him some 25 years ago. So sorry for the loss for your family, I'm sure he will be missed, can only imagine the impact of him was so strong that many years ago I cannot imagine the loss you are all feeling.
If I was home and not 1200 miles away I would be there for his funeral my sympathies to his family and especially his brother Robert was a friend of mine and the world is a lesser place without him my prayers are with you all and I wish I could be there
