Jon Orwig, age 65, of Flora, Illinois, was called home on Friday, July 10, 2015, at Flora Gardens Care Center.  Jon suffered from a long-term illness and passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by friends and family.

 

   He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country from 1970-72.  He was a member of several charitable organizations, and an upstanding citizen of his community.  There was never a more sweet-natured man.

 

   He is preceded in death by his father, Jon Julian Orwig DDS; mother, Kathryn N. (nee Kyle) Orwig on May 13, 1995; sister, Michelle D. Jarrell; grandparents: Wilbert and Nellie; and his loyal and faithful friend of 8 years, Misty.

 

   He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Donna K. (nee Taylor) Orwig of Flora; 2 sisters, Kathryn Orwig and Julienne Moreland, both of California; 1 brother, Carl Orwig of O'Fallon; 2 step-daughters, Michaela Sieleman of Illinois and Nancy Sieleman of Arizona; 5 grandchildren; and niece, Jennifer and nephew, Bryan.

 

   A memorial celebration of life will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, 500 N. Main St., Flora Illinois.  Members of the honor guard will present military rites at 4 p.m.

 

   We pledge to be soulmates for eternity and death will not interfere with the love I have for thee, I give you two kisses for now until we meet again.  I will hunger for more until my time ends, and we are reunited in the place you’ve made for me.  Souls reunited for all eternity.  By Donna Orwig.
