Kenneth W. Jennings Sr., age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Ken was born July 9, 1935 in Oskaloosa to Wesley G. and Florence E. (Devore) Jennings. He married Freda Jones on September 22, 1961 at the Salem General Baptist Church in Salem. Ken served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany. During his working years, he was a car salesman and carpenter, always building things through his carpentry work. Ken always had an eye for classic cars, leading him to join the Chevy Cruisers Club. He donated his time being a baseball coach and Cub Scout leader, was a past member of the Flora Oddfellows Lodge, and enjoyed hunting and following the St. Louis Cardinals. As a father and grandfather, Ken enjoyed seeing the families at reunions.
He is survived by his wife: Freda Jennings of Flora; 2 sons: Ken Jennings Jr. of Rinard and Barry (Candy) Jennings of Flora; 2 granddaughters: Myranda Jennings and Haylee Jennings both of Flora; a sister: Ruth Elvadene Holder of East Alton; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters: Ruby June Kramer, Mary Brashear, Lela Smith, and 5 brothers: Opal, Burl, Delmer, Leroy Harold, and Robert James Jennings.
A funeral service for Kenneth Jennings Sr. will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will be in Hoosier Prairie Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 15th, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be given to Oddfellows or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Letting you know Ken I have you and your family in my prayers. I always liked and respected your Dad. Having experienced the same loss not too long ago I can understand some of the feelings you and your family are experiencing. We not only lose a father and a loved one we lose a friend as well. I questioned life after my fathers passing and have had time to understand though they have passed on they live on in spirit in us and through us and the family and friends lives your father touched. We will grieve and mourn but we also have to rejoice in the blessing they were and still are to us and the blessing we received to be connected to them here on Earth by Gods hand. That blessing comes with the honor to be able to give back to those around you the good gifts we recieved from the spirits of our loved ones who have passed.
