He was officially diagnosed in 2017 with Lewy Body Disease and contracted COVID on December 7, 2021, and passed away peacefully in Kimble, MN.

Dave was born April 12, 1950, at Clay County Hospital in Flora, Illinois. His family lived in Flora and attended school from kindergarten through high school. After college, Dave moved to Flora and settled in to raise his family.

Dave earned his bachelor’s in education at Millikin University in Decatur. Dave was employed by the Flora, Illinois, school district as a 4th and 5th grade teacher for 35 years as well as coached Cross Country, Track and basketball.

Dave was loved by many and liked by all. He touched countless lives over the years be it through teaching grade school at Lincoln School within the Flora School district. Dave also coached Cross Country in the mid 80’s and coached track and field in the mid 90’s.

Dave had a warm smile and a kind heart and would be there to give sound advice when ever needed. Dave was a one-of-a-kind individual. He would talk to you about any subject of life but mostly loved talking about running, basketball and of course St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

Even after he retired from teaching, Dave could never sit still very long when he was healthy. During the spring and summer months, Dave would mow yards every day to keep busy. He would travel to see his grandkids in Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Virginia when he wasn’t mowing.

I met Dave in 1967 when he was a Flora High School senior, and I was a first- year teacher. I like to think that he became a lifelong friend after that, and we shared many conversatons over the years. Dave was always ready with a story about the Cardinals. I will miss seeing him jog by or riding his mower in the summertime. Rest in peace my friend.
